16 Ways to Save Money
Saving money is something I love to do! For me, there is nothing more satisfying than watching your money grow and getting closer and closer to your goals. Over time I’ve acquired different methods and habits that help me save money, and today I’m going to share them with you!
#1: TAKE STOCK OF SUBSCRIPTIONS YOU DON’T USE AND GET RID OF THEM
#2: LOOK AT YOUR BILLS AND SEE IF THERE ARE CHEAPER ALTERNATIVES
#3: WAIT 1 WEEK BEFORE BUYING ANYTHING, IF YOU STILL WANT IT A WEEK LATER THEN BUY IT
Many times when online shopping (which is often during the pandemic) it’s completely out of impulse. Something looks cool or pretty and I want it right now, so I buy it. But if I were to stop and truly think about that purchase I would be so annoyed that I wasted my money on stupid stuff. So just save yourself the pain and wait a week.
#4: AUTOMATE YOUR SAVINGS DEPOSITS FOR MORE ACCOUNTABILITY
Just do it! If you leave saving to your memory, odds are you’ll forget.
#5: MEAL PREP AND BRING YOUR LUNCH TO WORK RATHER THAN EATING LUNCH OUT
#6: PLAN OUT YOUR MEALS BEFORE GOING TO THE GROCERY STORE TO AVOID OVERSPENDING
I’ve fallen victim to this trap before and regretted it instantly. When I go to the grocery store and buy whatever looks good to me, I realize once I get back home that I haven’t gotten ingredients to make true meals. Planning before going to the store allows you to make the most of both your trip and your money.
#7: SELL CLOTHES THAT YOU NO LONGER WEAR WITH THREDUP, POSHMARK, MERCARI, PLATO’S CLOSET, AND CONSIGNMENT SHOPS.
#8: FIND FREE HOBBIES
Try hiking, biking, having a picnic, creating a garden, etc.
#9: BUILD A CAPSULE WARDROBE
A capsule wardrobe is when you have a limited amount of items that easily work together. They normally consist of more classic and non-trendy items. The benefit of building a capsule wardrobe is not having to buy additional clothing and easily being able to put together an outfit.
#10: SAVE OR REPURPOSE YOUR LEFTOVERS
If you cook a meal or go out to eat, make sure you keep your leftovers. Even if you don’t eat it as it is, you can get creative and make another meal out of them.
#11: DO YOUR NAILS AT HOME
Get a gel or dip manicure kit from Amazon. The kit will pay for itself after 2-3 applications.
#12: BUY QUALITY ITEMS FOR LONGEVITY
We’ve all heard the saying “quality over quality” and there’s so much truth in that statement. If you buy a quality item (which is normally more expensive) the likelihood that you’ll have to repurchase the item once the first one wears out is very low. So, in the long run, you’re actually saving money!
#13: DON’T OVERBUY MAKEUP AND BEAUTY PRODUCTS
I’ve been a beauty YouTube junkie since high school and have often felt influenced to buy the newest eyeshadow palette or foundation. As I’ve gotten older I’ve noticed how unnecessary it is to have copious amounts of makeup and beauty products. If you’re interested in knowing what my makeup favorites are, check out this blog post!
#14: SAVE BIG PURCHASES FOR HOLIDAY SALES (BLACK FRIDAY, MEMORIAL DAY, LABOR DAY)
#15: BUY USED CARS
I’m not a big car person so I’m totally fine with buying a car that’s a couple of years old. You’ll save money and the car will still be new to you!
#16: PLAN A STAYCATION INSTEAD OF A VACATION
So there you have it! Let me know down below in the comments if you’ve tried any of these methods and if they work for you! Thanks for supporting the blog!
